Step 1: Introductory Conversation
Purpose: Establish context and determine fit
We begin with a short introductory call, typically around 30 minutes. This is not a sales conversation. It’s a chance to understand your situation, goals, and the challenges you’re facing.
We focus on identifying where uncertainty is highest and whether my involvement would add meaningful value. If it’s not a good fit, I’ll say so directly.
Step 2: Initial Context Review
Purpose: Create a shared understanding before moving forward
Once we decide to proceed, I review relevant background materials and existing context. This may include documents, prior discussions, or ongoing relationships related to China.
The goal at this stage is to surface key decision points, clarify priorities, and identify risks that may not yet be visible.
Step 3: Engagement Setup
Purpose: Define a clear and flexible working structure
We align on the appropriate level of ongoing support and confirm the monthly engagement structure. Expectations, communication cadence, and decision involvement are discussed clearly at the outset.
All engagements are structured on a monthly basis, allowing support to adapt as circumstances change. Engagements begin once scope and the monthly retainer are confirmed.
Step 4: Ongoing Advisory & Execution Support
Purpose: Support decisions as situations evolve
This is where most of the work happens. As projects and relationships progress, I stay involved to provide ongoing judgment, context, and support.
The emphasis is on keeping communication clear, maintaining continuity, and addressing potential issues early — before they become costly or disruptive.
Step 5: Review & Adjustment
Purpose: Ensure alignment over time
Priorities and conditions change. We regularly revisit assumptions, review progress, and adjust focus to ensure the engagement remains relevant and effective.
This step helps prevent drift and keeps the collaboration aligned with your actual needs.
● Step 6: Continue, Adjust, or Pause
Purpose: Maintain flexibility and control
Engagements are designed to remain flexible. You can continue at the same level, adjust the scope, or pause the engagement if support is no longer required.
There are no long-term obligations. The relationship continues only as long as value is being created.
